Special Weather Statement issued May 20 at 5:03AM CDT by NWS Wichita KS Strong southerly winds are occurring behind a complex of showers and storms across portions of southeast Kansas. At 4:30 AM CDT, Chanute Martin-Johnson Airport reported a wind gust of 64 mph. While winds are not expected to remain this strong, 45 to 55 mph wind gusts remain possible over the next couple of hours. The main concerns will be loose and lightweight outdoor objects potentially being blown around, and a few downed tree limbs. Locations impacted include... Parsons, Coffeyville, Independence, Chanute, Iola, Neodesha, Fredonia, Cherryvale, Caney, Humboldt, Oswego, Yates Center, Erie, Chetopa, Altamont, St. Paul, La Harpe, Gas, Moran, and Thayer.
